Curation

In this information age, curation is more important than ever for educators and students.

  • Diigo - The description at the top of diigo's site summarizes what it offers - "Annotate, Archive, Organize". This site allows you to save and organize the sites that you want access to a later time with only a click. The organizational feature is a huge plus. Diigo allows you to "tag" sites (similar to putting them in folders) for easy reference. As a teacher this enables you to go to a site quickly at any time, from any computer, or any browser. There are also a number of groups that you can join, such as Diigo in Education. There is an option to receive a daily email with sites that have been added to the group or you can check at your convenience. Another feature for educators is the ability to make classes. In this ages of internet research, this is a highly valuable tool for educators in their classrooms. The last feature that is especially helpful when tagging articles is the highlight feature, so that when you return to the article/site at a later time, you do not have to read the entire article to remember the few sentences that caught your attention in the first place. Feel free to look me up on Diigo! My username is tech4edbuffet.
  • The bookmarks bar in Google Chrome is frequently overlooked. This is an ideal place for your most visited sites. Folders can be created to categorize the sites (i.e. administration, coding, research, etc.).
