Subject: Team Asha Runnernet: De-tox smoothie

To: Friend

Hi Friend,

Stay cool and hydrated this summer! I've attached the recipe for my favorite de-tox smoothie below. :-)

I am training for the SF half marathon this year. Here are top 3 reasons why you should donate to Team Asha.

1. Asha is a minimum overhead organization operating solely on volunteer efforts. This means that every penny/paisa of your donation goes for the cause.

2. Your contribution is tax-deductible.

3. Most employers will match your contribution. (Applied Materials, Xilinx, Salesforce, Intuit, Oracle, AMD, CISCO, EBay, Yahoo, Adobe, Google, Microsoft, Intel, Sun, VMware and more. Here is a list of exact steps. Please remember to use my runner ID: 2011TASV1288)

I feel honored to be a part of this wonderful and dedicated team. I ask you to join me in supporting this cause. Whatever you can give will help for the education of under-privileged children. Click here to go to my page. Thanks in advance for your support.

Best Regards,

Sandhya Mohan

Summer De-tox Smoothie

Ingredients

1. 1 Naval Orange peeled

2. 1 cup of cranberries or cranberry juice

3. 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper

4. 1 small piece of ginger (1/4 inch)

5. 1 spoon of lemon juice

6. Optional: Blueberries/ raspberries etc.

Method: Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend into a smoothie. Sit back, sip and relax. :-)

The Cayenne pepper increases metabolism and improves the circulatory system. It also helps to cleanse the liver. Cranberries increase the good cholesterol and decrease the bad cholesterol in the body. They are also a great source of vitamin K and anti-oxidants.

This email below is from a Team Asha runner's friend, JD. It's a fun--awesome subject line--,passionate, and personal appeal for a training-based fundraiser like Team Asha. (This is published here with JD's permission.)

The runner had already made a donation, so notice how JD personalizes this for people who have already donated:

  • He updates how much he has been training, and gives an example of a recent ride.

  • He reiterates his personal fundraising commitment, his progress, and two extra ways donors can support: by spreading the word about the cause, and asking another person to contribute.

Subject: My back is sore and I can't stop eating! No, I'm not pregnant -- I'm riding 500 miles on my bicycle!

In the last few months, I've cycled well over 400 miles, and I still have a few weeks still to go.

This weekend, I rode a challenging 80-miler to Olema in Marin County. There were five of us enjoying a beautiful sunny day and struggling a bit with intense climbs along the Pacific Coast. We got to talking about how we have the easy part: the early Saturday morning starts, the miles and miles of cycling, the sore backside, flat tires, trying to keep our water bottles filled and all that. Every day, and unfortunately this is still true 30 years after AIDS was first discovered, people are becoming infected, people are struggling to pay for critical medication, people are struggling to find the basic levels of support and community to encourage them to survive.

Earlier this year I made a commitment to raise $10,000 to fight HIV and AIDS. You have helped me hit an amazing $7,776 and I am so grateful. I also committed to riding for prevention. I'm asking for two things today: 1. please help me raise awareness by spreading the word that AIDS is not over; and 2. please ask one person you know to consider supporting this important work.

In 36 days, I will set out very early on a Sunday morning from San Francisco. As in the past, you will be with me the entire way. It will be another 545-mile adventure, a community on wheels. I'm honored to represent you all and I know you would join me if you could.

Let's join together to make a difference. You inspire me to ride. Thank you for helping me along my path of service.

Be well,

JD
