Week #10 --- Visualizing the Method and Magic of Coding
What was due for this session? Week #9 Online Activities
Goals for Today's Class: Bring your best, most organized data to class, as we’ll organize, code, and categorize to reveal themes and visually represent your findings.
Questions to Consider for this Session:
There are many ways to think about data --- how we organize, describe, and analyze it.
We're going to call this process "cooking our data."
PART ONE: Individualized writing and design
Groups to begin our class:
Dr. Carolyn will give each group an individual assignment.
To begin, you may review the Week #9 online assignments and texts + check out each others' products as ways to focus and connect.
Also, re-read Chapter 7 from The Power of Questions, "Making Sense of Your Learnings: Analyzing Data."
Dr. Carolyn is also available for individual conferencing. Please sign up on the whiteboard if you'd like to conference. If we have multiple sign-up's, we'll have to limit each conference to 5 minutes.
Need to get inspired by a new data collection type? Check out these digital literacy surveys: Survey #1 and Survey #2. They are nice models for high-interest student interactions. If you'd like to use these models to create Likert Scale surveys, check out this YouTube.
Need some clarification between writing explanations and assigning codes? Check out this doc, "Coding Qualitative Data."
PART TWO: Concept Mapping our Codes, Categories, and Themes
Use Google Drawing or other online tool to visually represent your findings to date on one page. Be able to describe it verbally to your partners. Post it on your personal 562 website/ blog.
What should I be working on for our next class --- which takes place on campus?
