If you are interested in dj-ing Tuesday Tango, let me know. The dj/host is responsible for starting/ending on time, making sure that new people are welcomed, and collecting donations. And swiffering the floor if JK hasn’t had time to do that.
Dj-ing is a great way to learn about tango music and understand the relation between music and dancing more deeply. And if you just want to try it out for 30 minutes, that’s fine, too. As for the music itself, many of our experienced dancers would be happy to share music with you. Making up your playlist does not have to be too stressful, either. The mix (or not) of Golden Age and nuevo/neotango is up to you. Use of cortinas (the brief bits of nontango music between sets of tangos) is also optional. Most of the practicas I’ve attended don’t use them, but occasiono ally they are used.
There are many websites that can give you ideas on how to approach dj-ing. Here are a couple to get your started: http://www.tangodj.org/ ; http://www.theorganictangoschool.org/DJ_Resource; http://www.tangology101.com/main.cfm/title/How-to-DJ-a-Milonga/id/265. The advice is for dj-ing at milongas where the dj has a much greater responsibility to help create and sustain a great mood for dancing. For practicas we mainly need good music for practicing at all levels of experience.
