Curriculum is a planned learning Project. Creation, innovation and design of this takes time and effort. My understanding of curriculum has been reformatted during the MEL 604 course. Prior to taking this course, I thought it is mainly having lecture series put together!
During my rotation in the ICU as a fellow, I tried to have activities and educational encounters implemented within the day-flow of the unit. I tried to have a continued assessment. Presently, my understanding is that as one reflects on their practice or formulates a question it is essential to assess the situation, and create and have a team that can work on solutions. This was also noted in our curricular development and included networking, obtaining resources, removing obstacles, and the continuation of assessment. Goals, objectives and actions on a timetable needed to be formulated in order to implement the curriculum for the improvement that we sought while concurrently troubleshooting.
After implementation the importance of reassessment, observation and reflective considerations took place. This again lead to questions and other problems that needed to be addressed within the curriculum for continued improvement and innovation. Curricular development as noted needs to be an ongoing process not stagnant one time event. This is the most important lesson learned which is reflected in the curriculum developed.
