Course Description:
Curriculum work is a complex and sophisticated endeavor. Students will come to understand the curriculum & program planning process by working through experiences that will promote the cognitive, personal and social development of curriculum planners. The course challenges curriculum planners to be inquirers and to critically examine the practices of medical & other clinical educational programs. We will explore questions both in theory and in practice by examining the foundations and principles of curriculum development.
We will consider the institutional context and the collaborative nature of much of curriculum work. The course provides numerous practical ideas for engaging in the work of curriculum development and implementation.

Students will be able to plan, implement and evaluate programs of curriculum that promote learning for all students

Evaluate educational literature and research and use it as a tool to improve curriculum.
Establish a curriculum and program governance system.
Promote a vision of curriculum and learning.
Conduct curriculum needs assessment
Integrate cultural and learning diversity
Design competency-based curriculum based on learning outcomes and performance indictors
Use the elements of curriculum design and principles of curriculum planning that promote learning within programs, courses, units, & lessons
Set clear learning standards and multiple forms of learning experiences, assessment, and evaluation
Work effectively as a member of a curriculum task force and as a collaborative change agent
