Sigma Xi Columbia-Willamette Chapter held its sixteenth annual Symposium of poster papers by undergraduate and graduate students in the sciences, social sciences, mathematics, and engineering, on Saturday 29 November 2020, at Portland State University. Awards were given for the best undergraduate and graduate posters in several categories.

In the Symposium, 55 student research posters were reviewed by 26 judges, and 26 monetary prizes for best poster presentation were awarded, including a special award to a high school student. The primary student authors were affiliated with 9 academic institutions. The Symposium provides practice for presentations at regional and national meetings in students’ own disciplines. The Symposium is open to the public, and admission is free.

To be considered for a poster award, the primary student author must 1) submit an abstract to Sigma Xi C-W, and 2) register for the Oregon Academy of Science meeting (students: $20).

Authors' timetable:

8:00 am: Smith Ballroom and poster frames ready.

8:00-9:00 am: Students put posters up for display

9:00-10:30 am: judges interview student authors at their posters.

Judges will interview student presenters at their posters from 9:00 to 10:30 am, even numbers the first 45 minutes and odd numbers the second 45 minutes. The lead author must be present at the poster during the designated time to answer viewers' questions, and is encouraged to tour the other posters during the other time.

9:00 am-noon : poster displays open to public.

10:45 am - 12:00: OAS oral presentations.

12:30 - 2:45 pm: awards, OAS plenary lecture.
