Sustainable Cooperative for Organic Development

The S.C.O.D. movement is commonly known as "The Sustainable Cooperative for Organic Development", but the acronym is also known as "The Sustainable Community for Organic Dwelling"; as in the original SCAD Thesis based on the Pipedream Pub and specific architectural design work.

The Pipedream Pub was established by the Tontine Triad at RWU.  "The Pub", as it is affectionately known, stands for the social commonality of humans, and a philosophical temple for the Tontine Triad (aka Drogo, Cordite, and SimaKe).  A Triumvirate of ideological knowledge formed the basis of the Pub (aka Empedocles, Nietzsche, and Laotzu).  Two abstracted characters from seemingly opposing theories, brought together by a third, provided a client framework for the Pub and inspiration for continued design work.

The SCOD Thesis was published in 2000 by Walton D. Stowell II, for his SCAD Master of Architecture Degree.  There is no final version of SCOD because of the very nature of its organic theory as derived from Frank Lloyd Wright and others before him.  Like Life itself, SCOD is an ongoing, ever-changing project with a life of its own.  SCOD does not depend on any one person, it is a larger concept; as it is comprised of multiple physical and ideological parts, it exists beyond the individual.  By definition it is not limited to a singular vision.

SCOD itself exists as multiple amalgams of various ideas, but is never restricted even to one particular mixture.   Even a vision of Utopia or Paradise is different for everyone, yet SCOD does not claim permanent perfection.  Many believe that our human existence only allows glimpses of archetypal enlightenment, regardless; SCOD strives for Organic Sustainability for humans.

"SCOD Green House" as an online project is meant to foster, or "grow", internet interest in related SCOD topics. The terms "Green House" and "Green Hood" are metaphors for related SCOD themes; from actual structures for growing plants, to environmentally conscious neighbor"hoods".  Also "Green Hood" refers to Robin Hood.

A complete reference list is impossible, as all things are reminglings, yet here is an attempt to site prime tags:    The Epic of Gilgamesh; Homer; Hebrew Scripture; Pythagoras, Empedocles, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Archimedes; Vitruvius; New Testament; Sparticus; King Arthur; Robin Hood; Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael; Copernicus, Galileo, Newton; Einstein, Hawking, Sagan; Hume, Hobbes, Locke, Kant; Washington, Jefferson, Franklin; Byron, Blake, Poe, Lovecraft, Crowley; Wells, Huxley, Orwell, Bradbury; Gaudi, Dali, Graves, Woods, Giger, Gilliam; Monty Python; Jung, Steiner, Gurdjieff, Ouspensky, Bennett; Wagner, Orff, Poledouris; Claymont;  Soleri, Cosanti, Arcosanti; DNA; World Cultural Diversity; Martial & Healing Arts; Art, Science, Alchemy/Architecture; History/Literature/Linguistics; Nature/Spirituality; Environmentalism; etc...
