It is fair to say that we wouldn't be where we are today if we hadn't listened to Emanuel Cassimatis! Basically his message was that if we placed our trust in Storm Financial, he would protect our assets by spreading the risks over a broad front in the share markets at little risk. We could sit back secure in the knowledge that our assets would grow over time, and they would be fully protected because Storm had the systems in place to alert us when adverse trends arose that could affect our portfolios. Of course, now we know that no such effective systems existed
We certainly didn't know that Storm was using our money to bargain with banks for their own ends. Further, we didn't know that certain banks had signed covert agreements with Storm whereby our monies collectively were being pooled through these banks for mutual profit. I believe it's called "churning" in some circles!
In order to make this profitable, Storm and the banks needed to ensure that a considerable amount of money was channelled in this way so they conspired to over-leverage their customers. It was a joint venture set up to maximize profits. Not ours but rather their bottom lines! It was all very simple really! Storm spun the yarn to their clients and the banks went along with it. In so doing the banks forgot about their prudent lending obligations to their customers, and their contractual obligations in general. They were like pigs around a trough of money, devouring the proceeds eagerly.
When the global financial crisis came along in late 2008, the banks put Storm down by shooting it in the head and quietly went about euthanizing their former Storm customers. In criminal parlance, they buried Storm's corpse in a field of broken dreams and sought to hide the evidence from their remaining customers. The ones that still had money, that is!
We've had our fair share of storms in this State of ours recently. None was more lethal however to the elderly than the collapse of Storm Financial because it cut a swathe through their lives that can never be repaired. For those of us that have survived, we want the culprits that were responsible for this disaster brought to justice, and we want compensation for their wrongdoings against us. Nothing less is acceptable!
