PUBLIC APPEAL

Have you ever been the “little guy” confronted with the schoolyard bully? I have! When I was ten years old, my mother moved from the country to a place called Deptford in the East End of London. I was immediately confronted with the schoolyard bully; a hulking individual whom we referred to as “Fatso” behind his back. To do so to his face would have had dire consequences.

Fatso seemed to take umbrage with me over my posh (country) accent and threatened to tear me limb from limb. Was I scared? You betcha! I trembled in my boots. It was the case of the incredible hulk versus the little, all-so-ran.

My sister, however, being a year older, was completely unafraid, probably because she didn’t have to fight him!

“Go on!” she yelled. “Hit him! You can do it, Fran!”

It took some persuasion as I was getting pummelled at the time. Anger eventually overcame my pain and I started swinging back, which took “Fatso” by surprise. A lucky blow caught him straight on the nose and his nose started to bleed which caused him to back off. Afterwards, I was so elated with my triumph that I didn’t feel the pain from a very bruised hand and a face that was somewhat battered.

It was only when I arrived home and my mother exclaimed, “What happened to you? You are a complete mess!” My sister explained gleefully what had occurred whilst I cried my eyes out!

The upshot of this was that Fatso’s mother knocked at the door the following day with Fatso in tow and wanted to know why I had picked on her son. My mother, a little no-nonsense Irish woman, called me out and said to her, “Look at the size of your son to mine! If you or your son, come around here again, I’ll hit you both myself!” Good on you, mum, I thought, as I hid behind her

That’s what the people that have been robbed by Storm Financial and the banks now face. Bullies in the guise of bankers that laud it over us because they have the money and we do not. Some of that money is ours by the way, and we want it back but we have very limited means to fight back with.

I am now making this appeal to those in our society here in Australia and around the world that have the money to help us. We that have suffered are not asking you to recompense us for the monies we have lost unless you have the odd three billion dollars to spare? No! We are looking for funds to help us in a media campaign so that we can tell our side of the story. People need to be warned about these banks that conspired with Storm Financial to defraud three thousand or so (75% of whom are past retirement age) of their life savings.

Before you dismiss my comments as “interesting” and surf the net somewhere else, ask yourself this! “Have you at any time in your life been the ‘little guy’ that has had to confront his demons? Have you been down and out and someone else has reached out to help you? Are you where you are today because someone else cared?

Remember this! Life isn’t about simply accumulating money. Rather it’s about the good you do with it when you have it. You now have the opportunity to reach out and touch peoples’ lives by contributing to our “fighting fund”. For those that do, I will officially acknowledge your contribution, and you will be advised as to how your generosity in monetary terms has been spent. If you want to remain anonymous, we will respect this too.

I’ll leave you with this thought! It's not what you leave behind in materialistic terms that you will be remembered for, but rather the deeds you do whilst you inhabit this planet of ours. When all is said and done, this is the real sum of our existence. This is what makes us what we are!
