A local industry that is coming to the front is the cultivation of black wattle bark for tanning purposes. Up to the present time this material has had to be imported from Australia, but it is now proved that the bark can be equally well produced here, and in course of time the import will cease. We have just been shown an excellent sample of bark grown on Mr Redshaw's farm at Avondale, for Messrs Gittos and Co., tanners, etc. This is the result of five years' growth, and the success of the experiment should encourage oqther farmers to plant more of these trees.
