14th Annual Golf Tournament

The 14th Annual Golf Tournament is early this year—Saturday,

May 31 at the Dutch Elm Golf Course, Arundel, Maine. Each

year 180 players gather to play golf and have fun for a good

cause.

This tournament is the single largest contributor to the Brother

Richard Hebert Memorial Scholarship which provides annual

scholarships for graduating seniors from local high schools. The

cost of the Tournament is $30.00 for Dutch Elm members, and $60.00

for nonmembers. Get your applications in. You don't want to be

shut out of this fun event. Applications are available at Doc's Tavern,

In the Ruff, Dutch Elm, Biddeford Saco Country Club and the St. Louis

Alumni Hall.

You don't have to be a golfer to contribute to this worthy event and

have fun. Volunteers are always needed to help before, during

and after the tournament. Contact Mike Dion at 283-9755 or

the Alumni Hall at 282-2285.

Annual Meeting of the St. Louis Alumni Association

—June 13, 2008

This year's Annual Meeting is an important one. Elections will be held to

fill a number of positions on the Board of Directors. We need people to

fill these positions to ensure continued Alumni support of local area

youth organizations. The Board of Directors meets once a month for

about an hour. Anyone who is interested in serving or knows someone

who would do a good job on the Board, please step up or nominate a

candidate. The Election Committee is Bob Belair (284-6518) and Rick

Grenier (636-2465).

In addition to choosing new officers, we will hear all the financial reports

including moneys raised and donations made. Each year the Alumni

contributes to support groups such as the St. James Athletic program,

area Little League teams, Girls' softball teams, and other area school events as

well as ten scholarships, the amounts of which have been raised from $500

to $750. Our goal is that all scholarships will be raised to $1000.

The Annual Meeting is also a good time to see old friends and to socialize.

If you have never been to an Alumni meeting or even to our Hall, or if it's

been a while, this is a good time to come back. Mark your calendar and please

come. The meeting starts at 7:00, but come early for social hour. A light lunch

will be served after the meeting.

After twelve years on the Board of Directors, serving as Secretary and serving

on the newsletter and other committees, Mike Pendergrass is taking a break.

He will still be involved in running the Pull-Tabs at the Beano nights on Mondays.

The current and past Board members want to give a big Thank You to Mike

for his many years of dedicated service. Even as a non-St. Louis grad, he

showed all of us the Alumni spirit of dedication to youth. Way to Go, Mike!

Life Members

You are probably aware that at forty years after your graduation date, you

become a Life Member of the Association. In two more years, all St. Louis

graduates will become Life Members. This means no more dues will be

collected from the majority of the Membership. Many Life Members have

been generous in sending along donations to help with the costs of daily

operations and others have earmarked their annual donations for Scholarships.

With the high costs of energy and upcoming capital improvement projects

that will need to be done in the next couple of years, we are urging Life

Members to make an annual donation to the General Fund and/or to the Capital

Improvement Fund.
