White Rabbit

Several years ago, I came across a strange ‘WHITE RABBIT’ (left) that's made from an unused face-cloth. As YOU DON’T NEED TO SEW … IT’S QUICK TO MAKE … as well as being EFFECTIVE !

Here's some instructions for the PINK RABBIT ( left)

Materials

25cm/10” Square towelling face-cloth - 3 stretch/rubber bands - 2 sequins/beads - 3cm/1.25” length narrow ribbon

Step 1: Lay face-cloth wrong side uppermost (in a diamond-shape position). Step 2: Fold down upper corner to just over the half-way position.

Step 3: Repeat with the lower corner, folding upwards.

Step 4: Fold over the upper edge to appx. one-third of the way down

Step 5: Fold up the lower edge to cover the previous fold, creating a narrow strip.

Instructions continued - Image 3:

Step 6: Fold this strip in half lengthwise, folded edges together. Place a stretch band over the central fold to form a neck. Place the 2 remaining bands over each leg point, positioning appx. halfway along.

Step 7: Take the leg ‘point’, fold back towards head, pulling through the neck band to form an ‘ear’ to one side of the head. (The leg band will remain at the leg base.) Repeat with the other leg.

Step 8: Glue on sequins & attach ribbon mouth – positioning will vary animal type. Use leg bands to attach to tin/soap.

Further ideas

  • Ideal as a simple gift & to decorate another item (eg. bar of soap, tin or other small container

  • Create a childs simple toy BUT remember to stitch together & embroider facial markings

  • A great way to use up squares of fabric off-cuts especially those in felt

  • For dressmakers, use medium-heavyweight non-woven interfacing which can be dyed or stitched for further variety

  • Make unusual & decorative dining table items to hold together cutlery BUT in place of a face-cloth, use a table napkin (folded to size if too large). Great to match up with your guests’ facial characteristics or for them to make for one another!
