Confirmation

The Diocese of Newcastle say: 'Confirmation is carried out by the bishop for those who have been baptised and now wish to affirm for themselves their faith and their intention to live a life as responsible and committed followers of Jesus Christ. Through prayer and the laying on of hands by the confirming bishop, the Church also asks God to give them power through the Holy Spirit to enable them to live in this way.'

At St Bartholomew's, we view Confirmation as a follow-up to baptism. In baptism, parents and godparents promise to bring up children in the Christian faith; in Confirmation, the individual decides that they are able to take care of their own faith. We confirm many people of different ages: there are normally two groups of children and adults. We do not have an age restriction on confirmation, but it is normally the case that children aren't confirmed until they are in the last year of primary school, or the first year of secondary school. We run a confirmation course for all those who choose to be confirmed, and have two classes for adults and children. If you are interested in being confirmed, please do not hesitate to contact the Vicar, or another member of the clergy.
