ERNIES STORY: (Jan 2014)

Jan.2014. This sweet boy was born outside, and neutered and cared for by my parents.(they had found homes for as many of the siblings as possible, and spayed and neutered the rest, as well as spayed the 2 feral mother cats). This boy, however, being the friendliest, and wanting to be indoors needed a home for the winter, as well, which was luckily found and ended up being an amazing home where he is loved and lives with another cat, and 2 dogs, and has adjusted wonderfully.

April update: Below is a recent picture of him in his new home: He's one happy looking boy!

His siblings have survived the winter with shelter and feeding station, they like to watch us, but will not come too close.

KIT'S STORY:

September 2013

This little girl was trapped at the same time as the little Tabby in the following pictures. When she went in for her spay, she was found to be positive for feline leukemia. Because she seemed so healthy, and kittens already taken from the colony, were found to be negative, we were quite surprised and I hadn't discussed having her euthanized if she was positive. Due to the fact, that I was, unable to get a hold of the lady who had been feeding the colony of cats at the barn, she had to be brought out of anesthesia until we had confirmation of what to do. Being positive, we were now unable to release her back, and she would have to go to a home without other cats, or one with a positive cat, as well as be an indoor cat only. It was a Friday, so a decision was made to bring her back to my place in isolation, and give the weekend to advertise for a home for her. (Luckily, she was a loving sweet girl, and it was thought that she had been a drop off to the barn). She would go back to the vet clinic the following Monday morning, either for a spay or euthanasia. We weren't very hopeful at finding her a home, but thought she deserved the chance due to her sweet nature. An amazing lady did contact me, and after researching leukemia, decided she would take this girl in, and at least give her a try. She was spayed the first week of September (and had been in the first stage of pregnancy), and was put into her new home the following week. She is adjusting well in her new home, has had no health issues, and her new family love her. A very happy ending for this little sweetie!

Magnum's Story (Dec.2012)

This stray, male kitty was being fed by an elderly gentleman in

Bridgewater for over a year. Unfortunately, the gentleman

passed away in Dec.2012, leaving this kitty with no one.

The family who inherited the house wanted him gone. He

was brought back to HRM, and vetted, (with the help of TAPA cat

rescue), and found to be an approx.7-8 year old boy who

was unfortunately also positive for Feline aids. Being very shy

but a sweet natured boy, he was found a temporary home, praying

a permanent one would be found. Luckily, after looking for a few months,

a family was willing to give him a try, and have fallen in love with this guy,

giving him a forever home for his remaining years.

Now, that's a success story!

Greyson's Story: Sept. 2014

Greyson, had shown up in one of our shelters, on Amherst shore, around Feb. 2014. Being very

fearful, we couldn't get close enough, to even know if he was male or female. By June, and no kittens, we were confident, he was a male, and the panic to get vetted was off. As summer went on, he started spending more and more time on our deck, and although, we were unable to touch him, he did want to be close. Our only problem with him, was he did start to spray, claiming our deck as his own.

. We started only putting food in a pet taxi, (which as you see, he became very comfortable in), so we were able to catch him for vetting, without the stress of a trap. He tested neg. for aids and leukemia, so was neutered, needled, and treated for parasites, and released, end of August. Since his neutering, he will rub against our legs, but he still doesn't want to be touched, and will hit you, if you try. Also, the spraying has stopped since his neutering, making him more pleasant to have hanging around. We're hoping that, maybe eventually, he may become pet material, but if not, he will be provided, with shelter and food, and hopefully have a wonderful life, living as a feral.

OCT. 6th UPDATE: As we were unable to get up to the cottage the past couple of weeks, my dad had been putting food out for Greyson, with no sightings of him. Saturday, he finally showed up, and was not letting me out of his sight. (letting me even pet him, and following me everywhere's). I was able to get him back in the pet taxi with food, so I've decided to bring him home with me, to see how he does in a home situation, and to give him a chance as a pet. With so many house cats needing homes, I generally wouldn't try to tame and get a feral cat into a home, but him being by himself, and making such progress in wanting to be with people, he deserves the chance.

November 12 update.

Greyson has become a total sweet, affectionate cat, wanting to be on your lap, any time you stop moving. It is hard to believe how far he has come in a month.

Dec.2014. Greyson has been in his new home for 3 weeks now. He has adjusted beautifully, becoming a total lap cat. His new family have fallen in love with him.

IZZY'S STORY:

Jan. 19th, 2014 update: Izzy went to an amazing "forever home" yesterday. She will be so missed, but so happy for her.

Nov. 02, 2013 Isabelle (Izzy) is now up for adoption!

Sept. 2013

This sweet tiny female tabby, was born outside and has had at least 3 litters of kittens, that we know about. She had been one of a colony that was being fed at a deserted barn in Wentworth, by a neighbour for over a year and a half. She was trapped and spayed, and was to be returned, as we thought she would be totally feral. Due to one cat testing positive for leukemia, this girl, who tested negative, could not be released back. Luckily, to our surprise, she ended up being a sweet, gentle, very affectionate girl, who has always used her litter, scratch post, and is just a well behaved girl. She dearly loves other cats. Now that she has gained her confidence, she is ready for a forever home. If anyone has it in their heart to give her a try, you will not be disappointed. She will be very shy at first, but once she is comfortable with you, you will never have a better girl! If anyone is interested in her, my e-mail is srvstiles@gmail.com . She is no longer in Wentworth, but in HRM.
