Storm days

Identified possible storm days
On the previous page we identifed a number of dates with multiple ship losses, i.e. days with potentially severe storms. Now let's compare the weather charts of those days with the chart for 17 Feb 1915, when Mary met the storm.

The website www.wetterzentrale.de contains only maps from 1st Dec1880 and onwards. Thus, we can look at the following dates and compare with the storm Mary met: 6 Mar 1883, 26 Jan 1884, 8 Feb 1889 and 19 Nov 1893.

When comparing the isobars over the North Sea on the charts at left with the charts on the right (all 17 Feb 1915), my conclusion is that the storm that Mary met was of similar magnitude as those causing major disasters at Grimsby.

This strengthens the theory of weather being a factor in the chain of events leading to the loss of Mary.
