Undergraduate student and Coastal Fellow Nate Winkler presented the results of his research at the URI Coastal Fellows poster presentation December 12, 2012. His poster was titled: "Using Seaweed as a Soil Amendment: Effects on Soil Phosphorus When Growing Sweet Corn (Zea mays L.var. rugosa). Nate's project involves analyzing how seaweed amendments affect the size of different soil phosphorus pools - water-, bicarbonate-, and sodium hydroxide-extractable. He's been working closely with graduate student and mentor Angela Possinger. Nate will continue his work on seaweed amendments and soil P in the spring semester, looking at effects on soil phosphatase activity.
