We want to extend a (belated) warm welcome to Jennifer Cooper, Ivan Morales, Juliana DeLuca, and Abra Clawson, our new students this fall. Jen comes to us from Santa Clara, CA, and is a Ph.D. student in Biological and Environmental Science. She has a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California - Los Angeles and extensive analytical experience in the wine industry. Ivan is a Ph.D. student from the Dominican Republic, where he worked in an environmental consulting firm. He has a B.S. and an M.S. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico - Mayaguez. Jen and Ivan will be studying the effects of climate change on the water quality improvement functions of onsite wastewater treatment systems(OWTS), a project funded by RI SeaGrant and the RI Agricultural Experiment Station. Juliana is a senior majoring in microbiology at URI. She comes to us from New Jersey, and is assisting with the OWTS/Climate Change project. Abra is a student at Chariho High School and will be helping graduate student Alissa Becker with her research on effects of livestock types on the quality of soils under pasture.
