Standard 5: Evaluation
Candidates demonstrate knowledge, skills, and dispositions to evaluate the adequacy of instruction and learning by applying principles of problem analysis, criterion-referenced measurement, formative and summative evaluation, and long-range planning.
Personal Definition
When using technology, it is important to evaluate how the students are learning. There are many great technology tools to use to assess students as they are using technology. Once feedback is given, it is important as a teacher to decide if the current technology being used should be continued with or if a new tool should be used.
Media Planning and Production
5.1.1- Identify and apply problem analysis skills in appropriate educational communications and instructional technology contexts.
We created a Google Form to give teachers the opportunity to provide feedback on what they liked but also how to make our website better. This survey was given to our classmates and changes were made to make our website easier to use.
Selection and Integration of Instructional Technology
Preparing for an Interview Unit Plan
5.1.1- Identify and apply problem analysis skills in appropriate ECIT contexts (e.g., conduct needs assessments, identify and define problems, identify constraints, identify resources, define learner characteristics, define goals and objectives in instructional systems design, media development and utilization, program management, and evaluation).
By creating this artifact, I analyzed how to put together a lesson plan that used technology to help students understand the importance of the interview process. It took a lot of planning and organizing how to enhance the material with the use of technology.
5.2.1- Develop and apply criterion-referenced measures in a variety of ECIT contexts.
At the beginning of the lesson, goals are determined as to what the students should learn from the unit. In addition, several Iowa Core Curriculum Employability Standards are also met with this lesson plan.
5.3.1- Develop and apply formative and summative evaluation strategies in a variety of ECIT contexts.
A variety of assessments are used throughout the artifact to determine students understanding of the interview process. Formative assessments are used throughout the lesson while rubrics are created as summative evaluations at the end.

Problem Analysis
5.1.1- Identify and apply problem analysis skills in appropriate educational communications and instructional technology (ECIT) contexts (e.g., conduct needs assessments, identify and define problems, identify constraints, identify resources, define learner characteristics, define goals and objectives in instructional systems design, media development and utilization, program management, and evaluation).
By completing this artifact using the ADDIE model, I have conducted a needs assessments of our school, identified and defined problems my students were having, identified constraints the instruction may have, identified resources needed for my instruction, defined my learners, defined the goals and objectives for my instruction, developed the media I needed for my instruction, laid out how the unit would be managed, and decided how I would evaluate the successfulness of my unit.
Criterion-Referenced Measurement
5.2.1- Develop and apply criterion-referenced measures in a variety of ECIT contexts.
For my project, I developed a rubric with the criteria of how I would evaluate the students’ iGoogle webpage.
Formative and Summative Evaluation
5.3.1- Develop and apply formative and summative evaluation strategies in a variety of ECIT contexts.
My formative evaluation would be a student survey of what they liked about the instruction and if they would continue to use their iGoogle webpage and delicious account. My summative evaluation would be to collect data on the congruence, content, design, feasibility, outcomes, and management or organization of the instruction.

RWLD for Entrepreneurship Lesson Plan
5.2.1- Develop and apply criterion-referenced measures in a variety of ECIT contexts.
On our webpage, we have our objectives that we would like the students to have accomplished at the end of our unit. These objectives deal with using a wiki, conducting research on the Internet, and creating a multimedia presentation using either GarageBank or iMovie.
5.3.1- Develop and apply formative and summative evaluation strategies in a variety of ECIT context.
Throughout the unit, we have surveys to see if the students understand the material they are using as well as discussions about what they feel an entrepreneur is and what makes a good multimedia production. At the end of the unit, the documentary will be graded with a rubric and the students will also have a reflective survey to complete.
