GIS Day

November 15, 2023

** Due to the Covid Pandemic, changes may be made to this year's GIS Day. Please stay tuned for further information. **

During the third week of November, the National Geographic Society sponsors Geography Awareness Week and National GIS Day to promote geography literacy in schools, communities, and organizations, with a focus on the education of children. This event is intended to promote the understanding of Geography and Geographic Information Systems in schools and universities around the world.

GIS represents computer software, data, and solutions that are used by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide in government, education, and business. GIS Day is a global event where thousands of users of GIS technology unite to educate children as well as adults on the applications of Geography and computer-aided mapping.

Each year, the Smith County GIS Association, alongside Smith County 911 Communications District, the City of Tyler, Smith County Appraisal District, Tyler Junior College, Smith County, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, and others, host a GIS Day Event in Tyler Texas where we bring an increased awareness of the importance of GIS and Geography. Join us in demonstrating and experiencing GIS Day.

More information will be announced soon. If you are interested in volunteering or donating resources to the event, email us
