Smith County GIS Association Newsletter
The Smith County GIS Consortium has contracted with Surdex to develop new contour data for our county. We will be acquiring four-foot contours for the entire county, as well as two-foot contours for the municipalities within the county. We should be receiving the data in the next month.
This data will be generated from a combination of existing LIDAR data and DEM data from our 2020 aerial imagery project by Surdex. Our existing data is from a 2007 project I believe.
In addition to the contour data, we will also be getting updated Water line and Water body feature data for the entire county.

“Both the contour data and the waterline and body features have not been updated since before 2010, so it will be nice to have some new data that reflects the changes the county has seen…”

The Smith County GIS Consortium has selected the vendor via the STRAT Map program from a list compiled by TNRIS. Once again Surdex has been selected as the provider for the aerial imagery project, which is set to begin in December as soon as favorable conditions exist for a few days.
