To all users of increment borers,
(apologies for cross-posting)
First of all, our website is now open!
http://www.smartborer.com
At TRACE2018, I will set up a fixed log on a table at the venue, so that I will be able to introduce Smartborer to all interested participants by demonstration and hands-on operation. Unfortunately, my abstract was not accepted as an oral presentation (37 out of 86 applications for talks were rejected) and I will not be able to show my power-point presentation to you, which contains videos showing how Smartborer is used in our fieldworks. But I will think about an alternative way to show the videos to you.
My booth will be open throughout the conference and I will explain basic functions of Smartborer to all interested visitors (I may ask you to make an on-site reservation if my booth gets too crowded, because I can process only 1-2 people at a time). If there is a large interest, I will organize an intensive course during the mid-conference excursion (26th April) to explain all functions of Smartborer, which include (1) three different methods to start borer bit (pushing by one person, by two or more persons, starting using the "winch socket"), (2) how to change the gear ratio between 1:24 to 1:118 (necessary when taking 12-mm cores from hardwood), and (3) how to remove a stuck increment borer etc. I will also explain how to prevent damaging Smartborer while using it in your fieldwork and how to safely use Smartborer (please do not worry, nobody has broken it/get hurt so far). If you are interested, please sign up by sending me an email or filling your name in the sign-up sheet on-site.

The intensive course is limited to scientists working for/studying at universities and governmental research institutes. Note that all purchasers of Smartborer have to take this one-hour intensive course in advance. If you are seriously thinking about purchasing it, please sign up!
Finally, I would like to thank to those who watched our Youtube videos (there were six and twelve hours of play time in total by European and American scientists, respectively!) and also sending me many inquires about Smartborer.
At Worlddendro2018, I will open a smilar booth during 10th-15h June, and, if there is a large interest, I will organize similar intensive course mid-conference (around noon, date due to be decided). I will arrange for a car transport to a nearby forest and you will be able to test Smartborer on living trees. If you would like to sign up, please send me an email. Alternatively, I will put a sign-up sheet near our booth and you can sign-up on-site. Again, participants will be limited to scientists working for/studying at universities or governmental research institutes.
I am looking forward to seeing you at TRACE2018 and Worlddenro2018!
