Cresswall Hall (199/31+)
After WW1, Enid Madeline Oakes (199/31) married Cresswall Hall in Singapore in 1921. His obituary in The Blue Mountain Echo (NSW : 1909 - 1928)Friday 17 April 1925 - Page 5 tells us about his connection to the Emden during the War.
Mr. Cresswell Hall, late of Leura, passed away at Epping on Wednesday last, at the early age of 33 years. The late Mr. Hall was wireless operator at Cocos Island during the war, and despatched the momentous signal into space which brought the 'Sydney' post-haste to the locality, when the 'Emden' was seen approaching the island. As a result of that message, ensued the memorable encounter, in which the 'Emden' was left to bleach on the rocks of Cocos. The funeral took place at Rookwood on Thursday afternoon.
