Sherlock Holmes (1954-55)
Entre 1954 y 1955 el productor Sheldon Reynolds realizó esta muy buena serie sobre Sherlock Holmes. Hasta 39 episodios de media hora de duración fueron producidos, todos ellos con Ronald Howard, hijo de Leslie Howard, en el papel de Sherlock Holmes. Curiosamente, la serie no se rodó en Londres ni en Estados Unidos, sino en Francia, concretamente en París, donde se construyeron decorados para recrear el Londres victoriano. De ahí el acento francés de muchos de los actores que intervinieron en la serie.
La mayoría de capítulos son aventuras originales de Sherlock Holmes, aunque algunos sí que adaptan relatos concretos o utilizan sólo algunas cosas de ellos. Por ejemplo, el primer episodio es bastante fiel a 'El Signo de los Cuatro' en cuanto a la forma de conocerse Holmes y Watson, sin embargo, el caso que investigan no tiene absolutamente nada que ver con el de la novela, aunque el epílogo, con Lestrade apuntándose el éxito, es casi similar.
A pesar de ser una serie sobre Sherlock Holmes, en Reino Unido nunca se estrenó hasta 2006, en que un canal llamado Bonanza se dedicó a repetirla una y otra vez.
El mismo Reynolds volvería a hacer otra serie sobre Sherlock Holmes en los años 80 en la BBC, en la que rehizo y reutilizó muchos de los capítulos de esta.
Paulette Godard sería la más importante de las estrellas invitadas, interpretando a Lady Beryl en el segundo episodio.
Buena parte de los episodios están disponibles bajo dominio público en archive.org, así que los vamos a intentar ofrecer aquí con subtítulos en español cuando sea posible o, al menos, en versión original.
