Driving Tips

When coming from the south (San Jose/SJO or San Francisco/SFO Airports), it is best to use the 280 freeway / San Jose Ave exit to reach our guest apartment.

When coming from the east, via the SF Oakland Bay Bridge, use the 101 freeway to the Cesar Chavez exit.

When coming from the north, via the Golden Gate Bridge, take Lombard to Van Ness to Sacramento to Gough to Market to Dolores to 15th to Guerrero, to reach our neighborhood.

When driving in the city:

The best north-south routes are:

When you're South of Market St = Use Guerrero Street (going north or southbound)

When you're North of Market St =

Northbound, Use Franklin Street (from Market St to Lombard).

Southbound, Use Van Ness Ave (from Lombard to Sacramento St) + Gough Street (from Sacramento St to Market St)

The best east-west routes are:

When you're South of Market St = Clipper, Portola, and Sloat

When you're North of Market St =

East of Presidio Ave., use Pine Street (westbound) + Bush Street.(eastbound)

West of Presidio Ave., use Geary Avenue (westbound and eastbound).

You probably know how to read maps and how to drive, but San Francisco's geography presents special challenges that are not clearly visible from a regular map. And a GPS navigator will DEFINITELY lead you astray in San Francisco. You're better off throwing that thing out the window and using my driving tips instead.

Bottom line: if you're new to the city, YOU NEED THESE DRIVING TIPS!
