We offer many educational sessions throughout each week. Some are designed for all residents, and we expect all residents who can attend to do so. Others have a more specific focus and universal attendance is not expected.
Educational Sessions:
1. Formal teaching series:
a. Monday Openers (7:30-8:15a) – teaching and weekend review
b. Tuesday afternoon Foundations (2:30-5p) – 18 month teaching cycle
c. Wednesday morning Case Conference – chronic disease and panel management, Journal Club, LGBTQ care, Wilderness medicine, Global Health lectures, faculty patient cases
2. Other educational sessions and professional meetings:
a. M&M – first Friday of the month at 12:40 pm
b. Grand Rounds – some Thursday mornings at 7:30 am
c. Round Table – 2nd and 4th Tuesday, residents and faculty together at 12:40 pm
d. Clinic meeting – providers and staff together, varies by site
e. Team Meetings and Multidisciplinary team meetings – per clinic
f. Noon teaching in hospital – Monday through Thursday, 12-12:30pm
In addition, several rotations have required meetings - please see the rotation specific page for requirements.
Required attendance:
Tracked sessions: Monday Openers, Foundations and Wednesday Case Conferences
Attendance is taken by admin staff and tracked in New Innovations.
These three core educational sessions are designed with the expectation that all residents who can attend, based on rotation availability, will participate in the sessions. Because of overlapping demands and opportunities, such as call, night float, and offsite rotations, 100% attendance is not possible.
The following are minimum attendance expectations for these sessions, as a rolling average:
- 33% for R1s
- 50% for R2s
- 50% for R3s
Consequences:
Attendance at these meetings and lectures is a component of professionalism, which is a core competence that needs to be developed and demonstrated during residency. Attendance will be reviewed and discussed at the periodic advisor meetings. If a resident is still unable to achieve minimum attendance targets after developing a plan with their advisor, this will be reviewed by the resident together with the Program Director. Blatant disregard of required meetings or attendance targets could result in disciplinary action
