If you prefer the clinic intensive week to be first, please specify in the email to Liz and Joe.

Elective Overview:

Ideally, senior residents will take two weeks total for this elective but if you would like more or less time, please check with Joe as he is agreeable to looking at variable amounts of weeks or dividing the weeks among different blocks.

As much as possible, the OB chiefs should schedule the R1 schedule with 4 residents/block for their first 6 blocks so subsequent blocks (with excess interns) can consider a scheduling model that pulls an intern to Issaquah for their nights instead of at First Hill.

Senior residents who choose this elective will work with the OB hospitalist team at Issaquah for labor management, deliveries, triage visits, and c-section assists.

The OB hospitalist team will be the ones to provide the rotation evaluation for residents completing the elective.

There is an opportunity for other experiences at Issaquah - adult ER visits and admissions. However, we need to make sure that the resident on this elective doesn't become responsible for management of the adult patients after they are admitted. Due to this, time in the ER might be better suited.

A few details for future residents: parking is easy (in front of the entrance to the hospital, right when you drive in to the right), pick up a vocera (ask RN Charge to teach you how to use it, it allows nurses to find you and talk to you), feel free to use an individual call room (there are plenty, I used the General Surgery call room which was otherwise unused, they are located across from postpartum, belongings are safe), leave the # to your call room and your name with the Charge RN so they can page (through Emergin) or call you with new admissions/triage patients.

Driving Directions:

This elective is an inpatient rotation at the Swedish Issaquah Hospital Campus, 751 NE Blakely Drive, Issaquah, WA 98029. . Click here for a map and driving directions.
