Edmonds Birth & Family Medicine Elective

Call:

The resident will be available by pager for labor management, triage, deliveries, and neonatal resuscitations 24 hours a day. The resident will communicate with the birth and family clinic on-call physician about when they are signed out or off and will need to be cognizant of medicare work hours restrictions and home clinic responsibilities

Note: typical volumes for this one month rotation are 2-10 deliveries, 5 colposcopies and 20 clinic visits

Manage labors

Deliver low and high risk patients

Resuscitate newborns

provide prenatal care

perform colposcopies

Objectives:

the resident will evaluate, admit and manage patients of birth and family medicine clinic to labor and delivery at Swedish Edmonds

the resident will deliver those patients under the direct supervision of birth and family medicine clinic attendings

the resident will provide postpartum care to those patients they deliver

the resident will resuscitate distressed newborns under the direct supervision of birth and family medicine clinic attendings

the resident will provide prenatal care to patients in the birth and family medicine clinic. These visits will be precepted by birth and family medicine clinic attendings

the resident will perform colposcopies in the birth and family medicine clinic, under the supervision of birth and family medicine clinic attendings

the resident will see general family medicine clinic patients in the birth and family medicine clinic. These visits will be precepted by birth and family medicine clinic attendings

Evaluation:

Dr Marci Nelson will complete a one page rotation evaluation at the conclusion of the resident’s rotation. It will include an assessment of whether the resident is competent in their role, and, if not, in which of the 7 ACGME competency areas they are not competent. It can be found here:
