The HVR-V1E is a compact and lightweight professional HDV camcorder - sharing similar dimensions to the popular DSR-PD170P
The HVR-V1E is the first Sony professional to incorporate 3 Clear Vid CMOS sensors. Coupled with Sony`s Enhanced Imaging Processor (EIP) these sensors provide high sensitivity, low noise and a wide dynamic range to help achieve high-quality, smear-less images.
In addition to offering 1080/50i acquisition, it also provides 25p shooting - making it ideal for film-makers with smaller budgets and those who wish to create a more cinematic look and feel to their production. Unlike `progressive-look` pictures interpolated from interlace scan camera systems, the HVR-V1E`s `3 Clear Vid CMOS Sensor` system natively captures progressive scan images while maintaining full HDV resolution (1080). Moreover, footage shot using the progressive scan feature can be played back on any Sony HDV professional camcorders and VTRs and can be edited with major current non-linear editing systems, including Sony, Adobe, Apple, Avid and Canopus.
Other professional features include time-code preset function, two XLR microphone inputs, a time-code link to synchronize time codes between multiple cameras and HDV/DV-CAM/DV recording and playback for flexible work-flow options.

Compatible with existing HDV equipment & software
Because the HVR-V1E`s 25p scan signal is recorded as a 50i signal (by dividing each frame into two fields) it can be played back or fed to an editing suite using the thousands of Sony professional HDV equipment already in use throughout the world. Existing HDV nonlinear software can edit this 25p scan content and output the final master as:
1. A sequence of still images at 25 fps, for film out
2. A 25fps YUV (uncompressed) HD file, for output to Cinealta products
3. A 25fps SD MPEG2 file, for the highest quality DVD mastering possible
4. A 50i HDV file, for creating an HDV edit master
5. A 50i YUV (uncompressed) HD or SD file, for outputting to Digital Beta-cam or HD-CAM for broadcast
Sony HDV 1080i has rapidly become a popular choice for professionals, and third party industry support includes Non Linear Editing Systems such as Sony, Adobe, Apple, Avid and Canopus.

Like the rest of the professional HDV range, features used by true professionals such as XLR microphone inputs, time-code preset, camera profile, and manual settings are incorporated into the HVR-V1E.
Using the Sony Digital Master tapes, recording times of 63minutes are achievable in HDV mode.
The HVR-V1E supports recording and playback of HDV 1080i, DV-CAM and DV.
1080/50i and 25p (progressive scan) acquisition
For the first time, Sony has introduced progressive scan acquisition to its professional HDV camcorder range. In addition to typical 50i, the HVR-V1E offers 25P progressive scan capture. This is ideal for those who wish to create a more cinematic look and feel to their productions and lends itself particularly well to those film-makers with smaller budgets. The 25p scan images are recorded at 50i, and can be played back using existing HDV1080/50i HDV products. In addition, 25p scan footage from the HVR-V1E is supported by major NLEs (Non-Linear Editors) such as Sony, Adobe, Apple, Avid and Canopus.
