100 Years of Greece Scouting, 1910 - 2010
Scouting is perhaps the largest Volunteer Movement in Greece, very active in the historical events of this country from the Balkan Wars to date.
The motto of the Scouts is "Be Prepared" (ΕΣΟ ΕΤΟΙΜΟΣ) which have demonstrated and practice, serving all these years the three parts of the Scout Promise ... duty to God and country, to assist a man and the obey of the Scout Law.
Greece is among the first countries who founded Scouting. One day in London professor of gymnastics Athanasios Lefkaditis met a small boy who wore the Scout uniform in a store .
He had asked the boy what is he and the boy replied "scout", snd the boy also willingly to explain that "Scouts is a boy who is always ready to help others and do a good deed every day. With the response from this small English Scout had make an opportunity for Athanasios Lefkaditi to study about Scouting and bought it back to Greece.
In November 1910 Athanasios Lefkaditi founded with high school students Makris, where he was professor, the first group of Greek Scouts.After a few months, Athanasios Lefkaditi joint hand with C. Melas, N. Paspatis, F. Chrysovelonis, G. Panas to start the scout movement in Greece.
These five are considered the founders of the Scout movement in Greece.
