Current Event Article

What to Do:

Find an article on Earth Science: Astronomy, Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology. The article must be five (5) paragraphs or longer: Articles can be taken from websites, magazines (Bookman's has them cheap and you can cut them up) and newspapers. They should not be more than 6 months old. The library is a great source for all of these and its free. Keep in mind, there is also the university libraries across the street as a great resource. Some Websites for current event articles can be found under science-> Media->periodicals Look at the listing of websites under Science Websites for some good sources. to help you out.

Neatly cut out, print or photocopy the entire article. Glue or tape the articles to the back of your summary and critique. You may staple articles that are doubled sided, or full size article. You may also paste it into word, highlight it and then email it with your write up.

Read the article - highlight pertinent facts.

Write a two or more paragraph summary; answering the questions who, what, where, why and how. Do not forget to credit your source.

Write a two or more paragraph evaluation discussing why the topic is important in general to science, your general reaction to what the article had to say, how does this tie into Astronomy, how factual is the article (in other words, is it trustworthy and why).

Present to the class your article. Extra credit if presented as a PowerPoint (Template attached below.) If you plan to present as a PowerPoint, please let me know in advance as they take longer then a quick presentation.

Please note:

This assignment is an all or nothing. If any part of it is missing, I will return it to you for completion.

Unexcused late assignment is half credit. You have one week to turn it in at which point it becomes a zero.
