Schoonover Baptisms and Marriages – Kingston
These records are taken from the book “Baptismal and Marriage Registers of the Old Dutch Church of Kingston, Ulster County, New York, 1660-1809”, transcribed and edited by Roswell Randall Hoes, reprinted 2005 for Clearfield Company, Inc. by Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., ISBN 0-8063-0888-5 (originally published in 1891).
I have carefully maintained all spelling as it is presented in the book.
The date (month-day-year) in the DATE column is the date of baptism. The dates of birth were not given.
Each baptism and marriage was numbered in the book, and these are the numbers that are shown in the last column (they are not page numbers).
Entries written in blue represent descendants of Nicholas Schoonhoven (bapt. 1 Feb. 1685) who was the son of Debora Davids. These delineations between the two leading family lines are to the best of my knowledge without attempting to confirm relationships as part of this project.
These records, in conjunction with those from the Walpeck and Machackemeck churches which were situated in Sussex County at the northern tip of New Jersey, help define the time frame during which the families migrated from Kingston/Ulster County, NY to the Minisink area of northwestern New Jersey and southwestern Orange County, NY. This transition to Minisink appears to have begun around the early 1730’s.
