03-March 31, 2018

Well the 2018 season had a great opening day match at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center.

We had 18 shooters turn out to enjoy a beautiful spring day in the central valley of California. Temperatures in the 70's, a light breeze and a lovely green landscape dotted with blooming flowers greeted everyone.

Our Match Director Scott and a large contingent of helpers set a fun but challenging course consisting of 62 shots over 15 lanes with 4 kneelers, 6 offhand, 7 targets at 40+ yards and one killer 5/8 inch at 39 yds. The wind gods blessed us with virtually no wind until about halfway through the match when the winds picked up enough to raise havoc with the 12ft lb shooters. We couldn't have hoped for a nicer day.

The shooters responded to the great conditions by shooting some great scores, picking right up where they left off last year. We have some really good shooting going on in the WFTF Piston Division where Cameron and Bob are going to be locked into a fun competition all year long. They are both shooting numbers that match the best PCP scores.

We are also seeing some great competition in the Hunter PCP and WFTF PCP Divisions where there are 4-5 shooters who could win the match on any given day. Our lovely lady shooter Jessica is moving over to the Open PCP division (much to the delight of the Hunter PCP shooters) where she is going to challenge the top class this year. It should be a great year for our shooters.

Below are the scores from the match and a few pictures that I managed to snap. The WFTF scores have been adjusted to reflect 2 hits on the right hand target on lane 14 as several of the wimpy gun shooters felt there was an issue with the target. We tested the target after the match and concluded there was a problem. Every one of the WFTF shooters benefited except Cameron who dropped it both shots in the match.

After the match we had a lunch of chili and hot dogs which must have been good as I took home one hot dog and a cup of chili. Thanks to everyone who showed up early to help set up and to those who helped with the tear down. As always your support is greatly appreciated. Our next match is scheduled for April 22 at the Yolo Sportsman's Club in Davis, CA.
