12-2017-December

The Sacramento Valley Field Target Club ended our 2017 Season on a spectacular note. Shooting on one of the nicest weather days we had for a match all year, 21 of our regular shooters joined us for the last match of the season, which was also our shooter appreciation match.

The club shows its thankfulness for all the support and work our members do to make our matches a success by having a raffle where everyone walks away with a prize and enjoys a great lunch. This year's top prize was and Air Venturi V10 SSP 10 meter pistol and the second prize was a beautiful field target of a California bear made by and donated to our club by member Dave C.

This was also our first match since the AAFTA Nationals in Phoenix and of course we had a friendly challenge to see if anyone could whip our National Champion Scott S. Scott was kind enough to shoot his backup rifle (which is just as accurate as his primary rifle) to give us a faint glimmer of hope.

Well, the hot-shooting Jack C took up the challenge and tied Scott with a score of 53/58. The Shoot Off was an offhand shot at about 25yds. Jack shot first and hit his shot. Unfazed by the pressure, Scott stepped up and did the same. Jack then missed his second shot, old Cool Hand Scott stepped up and drilled his shot to take the win. It was a fun shoot off and the scores of 53 posted by Jack and Scott was some seriously good shooting.

The other class winners were Mark W who, after a long hiatus, came back to claim the Hunter Piston win; Bob K, who continues to up his game, taking the WFTF Piston class with a fine score of 44; and finally Dave C who was shooting his first match in the WFTF PCP class and ended up with an outstanding score of 50.

The turnout for the match would have been even larger except 5 of our regular shooters were in Oregon for the WFTF workshop and match. To be fair we put all 5 of their names in the hopper for the drawing of the top 2 prizes and "dang" if Gabe L didn't win the California bear field target.

So as we close the books on the 2017 season, we would like to thank all the great people who come out and support or club by attending matches and helping set up and take down. We had several members donate prizes, targets and winders to the club this year and we thank you all for your generosity, we do appreciate your help.

This has been a great year for our club. We have seen attendance at the matches continue to grow, a number of new shooters who have made great strides in improving their game and the fun of watching several of them excel at this year's national championship. We look forward to making 2018 even better.

Merry Christmas to All,

From Jim in Sacramento and Scott S
