1804. April. Birth of Robert MANN in Glasgow, Scotland who came to Tasmania in 1833 with his sister Agnes MANN
In the death notice for James Corkindale MANN 1811-1890 he was the second eldest son, meaning I guess that Robert was the eldest. Perhaps John MANN* didn’t marry until he was in his thirties.
Robert was born in April 1804. He too was a writer at Glasgow Town Hall with his father John, and was elected a Notary Public in Edinburgh by the Archbishop of Canterbury on 11 March 1826. He was a lawyer and auctioneer.
Robert MANN 1804- 1847 married Agnes FERGUSON in the Gorbals 15 Nov 1831, two months after his first daughter was born. He sailed for Hobart from Greenock, Scotland on the Eldon, 23 Oct 1833 with his wife and two daughters and arrives 1834 March 14. The two girls were born at No 9 Gallowgate St, Glasgow.

He was a man of many talents, one of which was being a Methodist missionary to the poor benighted heathen (the family story goes that he was actually referring to the Irish convicts rather than the aborigine population!).” – from Kate Beadle

Final Words
Stop and consider how many ancestors you have if you look back 20 or 30 generations. They are all equally significant -be they cook or captain. Some are just easier to find.
There are many undeveloped family links for you to explore for yourself. When I started, almost 2 years ago, I only knew the names of my mother’s parents and my father’s mother. It has been a great journey.
So go for it- you will find that it is a great interest. You also meet lots of helpful and generous family members along the way.
Feel free to use the material I’ve put together as you develop your own account.
