RUFFIN FAMILY TREE
NOTE:
There is a new, better site that contains all the information in this site. You can find it by googling -
or
https://sites.google.com/view/ruffin-family-history/home
The recent changes to google sites seems to have removed the links that allowed visitors to easily find their way around this site. You might find it difficult to use the site to find the names you seek.
The site has information on Ruffin and related families going back to about 750.
You may be able to use the search facility to find the information you seek.
If you would like a PDF file that is much easier to read you could send me an email at -

Feel free to copy anything you want for your own use.
This site records the history of the Ruffin and related families.

The RUFFIN FAMILY in the USA and RUFFIN FAMILY in Australia
If you are from the RUFFIN family in the United States of America it is likely that you are from a different RUFFIN family group to the one outlined on this site. I believe you will find your ancestors in the RUFFIN family from England. The families on this site descend from the RUFFHEAD family in England who took the name RUFFIN in Australia. If you are a member of the RUFFIN family in Australia that last part may be surprising. There are many more surprises in store for you here as you explore many centuries of family history.
The DOWD family form one of the main matrilineal lines in this family. If you are from the DOWD family you will find centuries of family history here.
Many other family names can be found in the NAMES SECTION and throughout this site.
DNA
I recently had my DNA examined to determine the major groups from which I'm descended.
The results fit very well with the family history outlined here on ruffinstory. My Irish ancestors in Sligo traded with, and probably fought, the nearby Viking settlement as well as being seafarers themselves. My Mann ancestors in Glasgow lived close to Viking settlements. My Norman ancestors in Brittany were descended from Danes and other "Norsemen". It understandable that I have Scandinavian ancestors on both sides. There were Irish ancestors on my mother's side and British ancestors on both sides.
The main groups from which I descended were -
97%. European comprising -
37%. Irish
28%. Scandinavian
17%. Great Britain
Additional Trace Regions in Europe
8%. Iberian Peninsula being European Jewish (Sephardi)
3% Europe West
2%. Finland/Northwest Russian
Less than 1% Europe East
Less than 1% Italy/Greece
Along with -
2%. West Asian - Caucasus
1%. Asian South

Interestingly I have a DNA match with a person wherein the link is at the 5th to 8th cousin level. To test the Ancestry system I had searched for matches between my name and the name Whitbread. Once the match was produced I looked up my 8th grandfather and found him to be Henry Whitbread
If I have learnt anything from this research into my family's history it is that the further back you go, the more you see that we are all related.
We are all one family.
NOTE; The PDF charts and the Family History PDF need to be checked against the notes on each person as the notes on the pages below contain some later information. Given that need to check the notes for updated information, if you would like to view, or would like to copy the information in a "book" format then please click on this pdf file - Family History.pdf

If you wish to follow the links in the RUFFIN family through to the present day look for names that are followed by an asterisk (*). For example - Isabella ELSLEY* 1810 - 1869
By following the names with an asterisk forward from parent to child you will arrive at the present generation.
Ancestors marked with an asterisk (*) can also be found on the attached Family Charts.
Generally I don't have an issue about publishing information about deceased people. When its already on the public record somewhere else I may record information on living people. However, the information published on living people is restricted. To ensure your privacy the names of living people are not recorded unless they give permission. The birth and marriage dates of living people are not recorded and no detail are published on adoption, divorce, occupation or residential addresses.
This site therefore contains very little information on living people. If anyone is concerned about, or objects to any information about themselves on this site, I will remove that material at their request.
Use of information from this site for private family history research is permitted. It would be very useful for other people to also have these records so that they will not be lost to the family when I can no longer provide them.
When using information from this site please give https://sites.google.com/site/ruffinstory/
