Visited Miyazaki University in January 2025 to meet Dr. Atsushi Nakano, who had returned from his sabbatical at UC Irvine. The campus is spacious, green, and has an undulated topography. It reminds me of the campus of Hiroshima University, where I worked as an assistant professor.

Prof. Cooper from Liverpool visited Nagoya, and we went to Gifu to explore the Kiso and Nagara Rivers on Dec. 2024. We also visited the river restoration research center (see the left photos).
I participated in a forum held at Xi'an University of Technology, which is co-hosted by Xi'an University of Technology, Jilin University, and the Qinba Research Branch of China Society of Natural Resources. We visited with Prof. Zhang from Kumamoto, and Dr. Kim from Kyoto. The organizing teams at both Xi'an and Jilin did an excellent job. I would like to extend my gratitude to Prof. Hou from Xi'an University of Technology and Dr. Feng from Jilin University.
Throughout the forum, I engaged in discussions with a diverse group of participants, ranging from senior academics to students, all of whom are actively involved in research and exchange.
The city itself is rich in monumental sites, and many, including local residents, are enjoying the historical atmosphere. Xi'an has a long-standing history of international exchange.
Dr. Feng and students from the College of New Energy and Environment at Jilin University, China, visited the Disaster Mitigation Research Center at Nagoya University and held a seminar exchanging the topics of students of each group. The seminar covered various subjects and was productive.
Dr. Zed and her collages at the department of civil engineering, University Putra Malaysia visited the Disaster Mitigation Research Center at Nagoya University and exchanged the activities of each other from personal level to department level.
Visited the lab of Prof. Nils Rüther with the coordination of Mr. Mortiz Roth. The facilities were spacious and clean.
The city of Munich was also great. Many people enjoyed the riverside. Vast construction site for Octoberfest supposes passion for Munich beer!
The laboratory at Obernach was very impressive in terms of the capacity of hydraulics experiments. Thank you for the tour, Prof. Arnd Hartliedb. A spectacular view of the Bavarian Alps was beautiful and peaceful.

With Japanese colleagues, we visited the lab of Prof. James Cooper. There were many experimental flumes. We found many similarities in the experimental facilities. The cafe and museum at the mail building were great.
I presented "Bedload dynamics in a braided gravel river with artificial secondary channels" at the conference, and I really enjoyed the city and the opportunity to catch up with friends.
I flew into Manchester airport and then took the railway to Liverpool. The railway connection between the two cities is the first intercity railway. Although the present rail line may be different from the first one, the trip was impressive to me.
There are many canals in Manchester.
