I remember when this song was popular in the early 1980s. It was an especially tough time in my family; my grandmother had been laid off after 37 years at her job. Her employer did not want to have to pay her a retirement, which she would have been eligible for in a year or so. She struggled to meet her basic expenses-- rent, food, utilities. We had absolutely nothing--abject poverty is something that I know and understand personally. Although we were not her wards, we pretty much lived with her. My mother worked a lot, was in school, and had a mean, alcoholic husband who didn't want to be bothered with his stepchildren. So, Grandma's house was a safe haven for us. I remember her praying and sighing a lot. But I also remember her faith.
She constantly told us that the Lord would provide and to just trust Him. I remember that this song would play on WXVI, a local black radio station in Montgomery that played Gospel on Sunday and parts of some days. My grandmother loved this song and would "get happy" every time it came on. She believed that God would perform her miracle. In a couple of years, she became eligible for social security retirement. God did provide for Grandma; her small social security check was more than she would have brought home in her pay for the month! And that she raised her three children, nieces and nephews, her three grandchildren and provided for three of my Mom's kids on that paltry paycheck is a miracle. Jesus' miracle of the fishes and loaves happened week after week after week as this divorced woman struggled to raise her children alone.
I praise God for the role model of faith in my grandmother. Even with Alzheimer's disease, she still talks faith and praises God for everything. It is just in her. And she continues to encourage me to trust God. Every time I leave her, she tells me to "take the Lord 'long with you."
God is still God; He does not change. Know that whatever the situation, God is still able to do it. Healing, deliverance, comfort, strength, provision--He is able to do it. HALLELUJAH! Press in to Him today and seek His face concerning your situation. Keep praying until the Lord gives you peace about it. I am confident that He who has begun a good work is faithful to complete it! Stand on the Word of God and EXPECT your miracle TODAY!
