I have written a lot of things over my career.
It probably started when I was at school writing a monthly magazine printed on a hand turned Roneo machine.
Once teaching, it progressed to my producing a monthly children's paper.
It became more serious with articles for education magazines, including a monthly column, editing a teachers' computer magazine, writing a chapter for a book for teachers from Scholastic publications and contributing a paper for a NATO publication.
Since taking early retirement and becoming involved with anything to do with Barrett's I was asked to produce help leaflets which culminated in my magnus opus - the Down With Acid encyclopaedia.
Someone asked me once to write my autobiography as my history of my dealings with acid reflux may be helpful.
I have started here, Refluxer, but haven't done much with it recently to be honest:
Recently I've started trying my hand at writing fiction which is harder as I don't have a timeline and I am having to make up stories.
I had what I consider a great idea for Temporter but it should have remained a short story. Expanding it to a complete book was probably a mistake. I followed the adage that the book would write itself. It didn't exactly but threw up many more ideas that could each have been short stories in their own right. I have expanded those ideas and adapted the narrative to be two follow on books: Trans-temporter and Tele-temporter but they are a bit turgid and I have difficulty ending the last of the trilogy. If I am get bored of writing it, I'm sure readers would give up. Perhaps any future fiction writing will be a compilation of short stories.
Another avenue is online publishing. My slowly evolving "Refluxer" recounting parts of my life highighting specific episodes, is being produced online: Refluxer.
Another short online publication is "Inexplicable - Tales of the Unexplained" which is available here: Inexplicable

This book is about three quarters finished but I'm bored with it as a writer and I'm sure readers would be, too.
I may get around to rewriting it but for now have reached the realisation that I'm not a novel writer. At best I can manage short stories.
My writing experiment
I think I came up with a good idea for a short story when I started on Temporter, but that's where it should have stopped.
I decided to attempt to make it into a full length novel. I thought of chapters like episodes in a TV drama series, with cliif-hangers at the ends of chapters.
I have often heard that, when writing a book, it has a life of its own and dictates the progress of the next chapters. When writing that first book, I started thinking of other avenues which might produce the sequels I planned. However, by following the ideas, I lost the tension.
I have had a number of ideas for short stories.
Conclusion.
If I write fiction in future, I will confine it to short stories.
Offer.
I had a few copies of Temporter professionally printed to see what it looked like. If you would like a copy, rather than them ending up in my bin, just ask me and I'll send you one. email chris@chrisrob.co.uk
