1/8/2015: An update about Agnews from SCUSD:
You will be glad to know that now that Measure H 2014 passed, our staff has been hard at work to put together plans and timelines. Please check back on our website later this school year to keep updated on the latest information.
Currently, we are cleaning up and preparing the site for demolition. Our Bond Projects office will begin consulting professionals and community members to prepare drafts for the proposed building plans and those will be submitted to the State for approval before we can begin building. This will take several months.
The schools are estimated to open in approximately five school years and we would not be ready to look at boundaries until the preceding school year. Our research of projected enrollment has shown that our District will continue to grow for many years. When we get ready to create boundaries for the new schools, we want the most accurate picture of where are students are as possible.
Feel free to stay in touch. I look forward to remaining a resource for you and your family. Measure H 2014 is an exciting time for Santa Clara Unified!

10/3/2013: Petition drive started. See here for details. Facebook page.
9/20/2013: On Thursday, October 3rd, DGS will conduct an informational meeting at 11:00 a.m. in the auditorium located at the Agnews site (3500 Zanker Rd.). For more information, please visit the DGS website: http://www.3500zanker.com/.
8/26/2013: AB503 is stalled in the committee. They had too much to look at and AB503 was not their highest priority. The bill can still be taken up next year since the bill was not defeated. But it's unlikely it will get passed in time for the DGS bid.
8/12/2012: AB503 will be heard in the Senate Appropriations Committee
6/24/2013: AB503 passes Senate Government Organization Committee. Details here.

2/20/2013: Assemblymember Wieckowski introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 503. AB 503 requires the State’s Director of General Services to transfer title of the Agnews Developmental Center to the SCUSD for educational purposes at fair market value.
9/11/2012: A few updates.
Planning Commission Staff Report on Agnews Site. Explains what can be built. With the scarcity of large Office/Industrial Parks in the Bay Area, this site looks very inviting to those buyers.
CM Chu sent letters to various state officials supporting the sale of Agnews to the SCUSD.
8/15/2012: The timeline has expired, but the Governor's Office has instructed the Department of General Services to hold off on any actions to give SCUSD and the City of San Jose more time to finalize a joint-use agreement (school + parks/open space). This agreement would make the land affordable for SCUSD. RONA is looking into actions our residents can take to keep the pressure on. We will post again when we have a plan of action.
8/4/2012: The state has increased their asking price to $72 million for Agnews. The SCUSD doesn't have much more than $52 million to spend. And after August 14th, the state is free from their obligation of first-right-of-sale to local governments, which means the land will be available to any buyer. Here are some more details from a recent Mercury News article. RONA has asked its membership to put pressure on their representatives to encourage the state to sell.
8/1/2012: Quote from Mayor Reed's office:
"Mayor Reed is generally supportive of a SCUSD proposal to construct a K-8 and high school with associated park and sports facilities. As you may know, Mayor Reed released this memorandum directing the City Manager or designee to negotiate and execute a Joint Use Park Agreement with the Santa Clara Unified School District on the Agnews East site in North San Jose."
5/18/2012: At this time the District is still negotiating with the State General Services Administration regarding the purchase of the property.
2/8/2012: The Santa Clara Unified School District (SCUSD) is in the final stages of purchasing the southernmost 55+ acres of the Agnews property. At the last board meeting the approved the Environmental Impact Report, and are scheduled to close the deal with the state of California in March/April. The money for this purchase comes from 2010's Measure H School Bond.
2/8/2012: SCUSD plans to build a K-8 school on the southern end of their site in the next 5 years, and a High school on the north end in the future.
2/8/2012: SCUSD has heard the rumor that Cisco has backed out of purchasing the remainder of the Agnews property and the district has made no decision on whether they would pick up that piece of land.
