6/24/2013 -- Agnews update: AB503 passes Senate Government Organization Committee

Post date: Aug 4, 2013 12:44:36 AM

AB 503 was amended to put schools on equal footing with parks and open space, and help local educational agencies find affordable options in school construction and site acquisition. Department of General Services would be allowed to sell a property for a public school site at below market value – just like they can for sites designated for parks or open space.

The bill passed with a 7-3 vote in the Senate GO Committee, and will next be heard in the upcoming two weeks in the Senate Appropriations Committee. If it passes this final committee, it will be heard on the Senate Floor where it is expected to pass and be submitted to the Governor's Office for approval.

I will be more than happy to keep you updated on the bill's progress. In the meantime please let me know if you had any additional questions, concerns, or inquiries.

Thanks so much. Please keep calling to the committee members and voice your support and I will be hopefully talking to you soon with good news!
