Checkerboard Cloth

This is the largest cloth on the site. This pattern begins a series of geometric patterns that begin with row 1.

Materials: 1 skein each of light and dark Sugar 'n Cream cotton, size H crochet hook or size to obtain gauge, tapestry needle to weave in ends. Model uses white (color 00001) and hot orange (color 01628). Total weight is under 1.9 oz.

Gauge: Approximate size is 8 3/4" wide by 10 1/4" tall. Gauge is not important for this pattern.

With light color, ch 31 to begin.

Row 1 (WS)-Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 5 ch, (bsc in next 6 ch, sc in next 6 ch)2x. 30 sts.

Ch 1 and turn on this row and all rows through row 39.

Row 2- (bsc in next 6 sts, sc in next 6 sts)2x, bsc in last 6 sts, changing to dark color with last lp of final bsc.

Row 3-With dark color, work first bsc over light color as in Getting Started page directions, bsc in next 5 sts, (sc in next 6 sts, bsc in next 6 sts)2x.

Row 4-(Sc in next 6 sts, bsc in next 6 sts)2x, sc in last 6 sts, picking up light color and preparing to work over dark color on row 5 as before.

Continue pattern on graph. End off light color after row 38.
