The twenty players who signed up have been divided into four groups of five. Each player would only have to play four games and would have five weeks to do so. Additionally, every player will have an equal number of whites and blacks -- two of each. The top two players from each group will advance to match play. Ties for the last qualifying spot in each group will be broken as follows: 2-way tie = single game with colors reversed from group play. A drawn game will result in another game with colors switching until a game is decisive., 3-way tie = single round robin with the colors reversed from group play, 4-way tie = highest rated vs lowest rated, 2nd highest vs 2nd lowest in 2-way format, and the winners then meet. Colors are reversed from group play. A drawn game will result in another game with colors switching until a game is decisive. 5-way tie = the lowest rated player will play the second lowest rated player in the 2-way tie format with the winner advancing to join the other three players in the 4-way tie format.
