元朗

元朗14430 公頃 -- 南起位於香港的西北方 , 是香港罕有的大平原 , 面積達大帽山及大欖涌靠中國大陸的深圳, 東至粉嶺大埔 , 西臨后海灣 , 北面則緊特區 . 距離香港市區達 40 公里.

基於地理關係 , 元朗自古以來是一個以漁農為主的鄉郊型社區 , 居民以耕田或在魚塘養魚為生 , 民風純樸 . 自七十年代起 , 在政府的政策驅動下 , 元朗市及天水圍相繼成為現代化的衛星城市 . 市內大廈林立 , 商業欣欣向榮 , 社區設施完備 . 至於 , 元朗已經成為一個傳統鄉郊及現代化城市兼備的新市鎮 .

Yuen Long is located at the north-west of Hong Kong. It is a 14430 hectares plain, the biggest plain in Hong Kong. It is bounded by Tai Mo Shan, Tai Lam, Fanling, Deep Bay and Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. The distance between Yuen Long and the urban area of Hong Kong is 40 km.

Since it is far from the urban area, in the old days, Yuen Long was a rural area. Most of residents works as farmer and fisherman. Their living was routine and simple. The condition kept until 1970s. In 1970s, the population of Hong Kong grew rapidly. The Hong Kong Government started to develop Yuen Long as a new town. Now, Yuen Long Town and Tin Shui Wai has become a city with full range of commercial, residential facilities. On the other hand, other parts of Yuen Long still conserve some rural components.

香港濕地公園 Hong Kong Wetland Park

在2006年5月20日全面開幕，以生態旅遊為賣點，在60公頃的戶外及戶內環境，可欣賞真實的濕地環境及生態，觀鳥及參觀鱷魚，是環境保育的教育基地

It is one of the green tourist spots in Hong Kong opened since May 20, 2006 with 60 hectares of natural wetland. You can watch the birds and crocodiles here. It is a wonderful place to learn environmental protection beyond the school!

每年農曆三月廿三日 , 元朗區大部份的鄉村都會派出醒獅和舞龍隊在元朗市區內巡遊 , 期間還會作出各種的民間傳統藝術表演 . 巡遊歷時三小時 , 巡遊隊伍長達數公里 . 是香港少有的大型傳統表演.

On the 23rd of the 3rd month of the Chinese Calender, It is Tin Hau Festival. It celebrates a god who protects the residents' life. On that day, the residents of villages in Yuen Long join together to carry out a parade. In the parade, many traditional activities are carried out (e.g. lion dance).
