Literary Fieldtrip

What  is it?

It is a literacy-focused, student centered activity that makes reading come alive to students by providing live re-enactments of scenes from the stories read.  The goal of this activity is to increase literacy skills, aid in reading comprehension, increase vocabulary development and foster a life-long interest in reading.

What did the students do?

Our students read a number of books from our eBooks collection.  eBooks is a new book format that is interactive and provides multimedia functions.  After reading, students engaged in reading comprehension activities.  Students also learned information about the animal characters in the stories.  For example, most students were surprised to learn that alligators have two eyelids.  The second pair serves them when hunting for food underwater.

What was the surprise visit?

A live visit from a tortoise, an alligator, a parrot, a hedgehog, a chinchilla, and a frog.
