Benefits of Project ASD!

Project ASD scholars receive funding through the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs. Financial assistance available to Project ASD participants includes: Tuition and fees for up to 36 credit hours (in-state resident rate) for approved courses. Scholars are eligible to receive a scholarship up to $250 per course, as well as support to attend state and national conferences.

*Please note there is a service obligation of two years for every year of funding after graduation. To satisfy this you must be working with students with an IEP. More information can be found at: https://pdp.ed.gov/OSEP/Home/faq2006

Accenting Diversity

Project ASD has developed procedures that have been specifically designed to promote and foster the recruitment, participation, membership, and preparation of students from underrepresented populations including persons from culturally and linguistically diverse groups. Emphasis is also placed on accommodating the special needs of students with disabilities. Efforts will be focused on facilitating students’ full participation in the project.

Quality Internships

Orlando and its surrounding areas offer a wide variety of opportunities for relevant experiences in the field. The University of Central Florida has agreements with several off campus sites including public and private schools, professional organizations, and local, state, and private education agencies.

Research Opportunities

Project ASD participants will be prepared to conduct research, implement best practices based on research, and evaluate new programs and projects that serve special education students, including students with ASD. Students are provided with opportunities to participate in research and scholarly activities focusing on the development of competencies in designing methods, collecting and analyzing data, and contributing to program development and implementation.

Mentor Demonstration

Project ASD serves to provide enhanced support to beginning special education teachers and speech-language practitioners of students with ASD through a mentorship program and demonstration sites for field experience and supervised practice.
