Exemplary UCF Graduates Open Their Classroom Doors
Project ASD at the University of Central Florida is an innovative federal grant project through the Office of Special Education Programs, designed to increase the number of certified special education teachers and speech-language pathologists with a specific focus on increasing the qualifications of certified special education teachers and speech-language pathologists to implement evidence-based practices for comprehensive programming for students with ASD. The goals of Project ASD's MDC Program are:
To promote a common vision for comprehensive programming for students with ASD
To increase understanding and awareness of the unique needs of students with ASD;
To showcase classroom implementation of evidence-based practices for students with ASD; and
To provide mentorship and peer support to increase retention and offset isolation experienced by special educators.
Project ASD's MDC Program offers multiple benefits for participating school districts, schools, and teachers. School districts and schools receive recognition for the proactive services provided to students with ASD, mentor teachers receive recognition for their hard work and accomplishments, and Project ASD scholars have opportunities to observe and learn from experts in the field. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved!
The Mentor Demonstration Classroom is a unique part of University of Central Florida's Project ASD. The Mentor Demonstration Classroom allows students in Project ASD to experience best practices in a local Central Florida classroom. Teachers that have been selected for this program have been identified as exceptional. Students can select from different locations and grade levels to meet the geographic location and personal interest.
