Social Enterprise
Putting Plus is a Social Enterprise. A Social Enterprise is a business with primarily social objectives whose surpluses are principally reinvested for that purpose in the business or in the community, rather than being driven by the need to maximise profit for shareholders and owners. Social enterprises can take many form including trusts, charities, and Community Interest Companies (CIC) the choice for Putting Plus.
Community Interest Companies
Community Interest Companies (CICs) are limited companies that exist to provide benefits to a community, or a specific section of a community. The CIC has the flexibility of the familiar company form, and access to a range of financing options appropriate for those working for a social purpose. Key features include an asset lock and a community interest statement showing that the business activities will be carried out for the benefit of the community or a section of it - see Form CIC 36 below. Again CICs take many forms and Putting Plus (2013) is a registered company limited by guarantee. Putting Plus CIC, which was registered in March 2012, was a company limited by shares. This structure, we discovered, was inappropriate for certain funders hence the need to establish Putting Plus (2013) CIC.
