It's been almost three years since the last announcement on my site! Think of this as a belated new year's announcement, since I've decided on a new plan on what to with this site in 2025. But first, let's recap the history of the site, which I'll divide into five eras:
The Origin Era (May 28, 2014 to Oct 2, 2014). This is the pre-revamp era of my site, back when it was just a loose collection of random articles (for instance, about Aarex's number list and Joyce's G function) plus a large number list.
The Vibrant Era (Oct 3, 2014, gradually ended early 2016). I reorganized this site to make it a full-out web book introducing viewers to the world of large numbers. You can see for yourself how rapidly the site evolved using this archive.is collection. In late 2014 I went on a frenzy of organizing articles, then in most of 2015 I went on a frenzy of writing new articles. Then in the last quarter of 2015 I shifted focus to reformatting my prior articles, till I got burnt out.
The Hiatus Era (Mar 4, 2016 to Apr 22, 2022). The dark ages. This is the six-year stretch where burnout got the best of me and I focused on completely different projects, only seldom updating this site. I did write one new article halfway through this era, on a night where I physically couldn't sleep due to a medication mishap. But otherwise, the changes to the site were little more than occasional additions to the number list.
The New Sites Era (Apr 23, 2022 to Feb 5, 2025). This era began with my site's move to the new Google Sites, a grandiose project that took an entire month till I reached a satisfying stopping point on the site's eighth anniversary. In those three years, my work on this site focused on reformatting and updating my existing articles, and it was on and off in occasional spurts. The latest spurt in June 2024 happened because I got into a horrible argument with my at-the-time crush and had to take my mind off it. Over those three years, my interest in large numbers gradually revived.
The Revival Era (Feb 6, 2025 to present). This is where my interest in large numbers truly revived. It started with an Internet spiral I went on about the four fours puzzle, and I became filled with ideas on how that could relate to my site, leading to a few new entries on my number list. I became interested in updating this site's content more extensively than before and eventually finished my decade-old article on Hyper-E notation.
Now what does the Revival Era mean for my large number site? It means that I'm now motivated to not just fix my old content, but also create new content for my site. In this site, my priority for 2025 is to write new articles for section 3.1. There are two articles that I haven't started yet, but plan to release the next few months: Bowers' linear arrays with 5 or more entries (3.1.3), and the Hyper-E googolisms (3.1.5). My other planned articles for 3.1 are about the fast-growing hierarchy and comparing large number notations, but I don't know yet if I'll make them this year.
I won't work on this site in quite as intensive of a spree as I used to. Partly because I don't have as much free time now as I did as a teenager, but also because I tend to juggle multiple creative projects at a time these days, rather than focusing solely on one. I might update old content on this site here and there, but this year, the new articles will take precedence.
Long live Pointless Large Number Stuff! And here's to many years to come.
