Directions

From Lake Wenatchee Rec Club - 45 minutes travel time

  1. Turn left on Chiwawa Loop Rd and travel 4.7 miles to Thousand Trails

  2. Turn left on Lower Chiwawa River Rd (just past Thousand Trails building) and follow 1.6 miles to Deep Creek

  3. Turn right onto USFS Rd 6101 and continue past Deep Creek up the hill to the top

From Plain - 45 minutes travel time

  1. Turn left on Chumstick Hwy (north)

  2. Continue straight on Chiwawa Loop Rd at end of town and travel 3.4 miles

  3. Turn right on Lower Chiwawa River Rd (just past Thousand Trails building) and follow 1.6 miles to Deep Creek

  4. Turn right onto USFS Rd 6101 and continue past Deep Creek up the hill to the top

The road is pavement until part way up Lower Chiwawa River Road. The remainder is dirt/dust. The road is well maintained until some distance after Deep Creek where the road narrows and is quite rutted. The brush often grows into the road and can cause Texas pinstriping on wider vehicles.

Staffing - (approx. 0500 - 0800 Saturday and again 1530 - 0300 Sunday)

The second shift start times will vary based on the overall pace of the race. Check with Command before staffing the second shift. Staff can generally leave 30 minutes after the last runner has passed. Be careful not to dust the runners when coming back down the hill behind them to Deep Creek.

Checkpoint Conditions

The checkpoint is generally shaded, flat and fairly open. It is cold at night and can be warm during the day.

Communications

A good handheld with charged batteries should be all that is required to reach command on simplex. A mobile with a real antenna would allow relaying from Tommy and Tyee on simplex.
